Childhood obesity

Fast food is not the main reason for the spread of child obesity . This was stated by U.S. researchers. They believe that children addicted to such food - a side effect of bad eating habits. The experiment was conducted by researchers from the University of North Carolina at one of the schools in the U.S.. He showed that many children from an early age parents or caregivers instill the wrong template power which is based on processed foods and sweetened beverages. That is why such children are more likely to be overweight and eating a fast food meal. Thus, fast food structure is part of their diet. Not the products themselves, and bad habits are to blame for the occurrence of child obesity. This is a much more serious problem, say the authors of the study.

Symptoms of Allergy in Babies and their prevention

Image
When you see your baby sniffle and is unable to have sound sleep at night and remains irritated throughout the day, it could be because of allergy. Initially the symptoms of baby's allergy are not grave so it becomes difficult for us to identify them but with time the symptoms aggravate so much that in some case hospitalization become mandatory. Food Allergy is very common When the baby starts taking solid food parents are excited about it. When babies are fed with solid food, parents have lots many questions to ask. They are bothered to know which food would be best for them, how it is possible to avoid food allergies in babies or how to identify the symptoms of allergies in babies. If the baby is given three new foods over the entire day and the baby develops allergy towards the food then it becomes difficult for the parents to identify which food has caused the allergy. The order of introduction of new foods is not important as long as they are healthy and offer the requ

How to avoid and overcome plaque

Image
Minimizing Plaque on Your Children's Teeth Plaque is a yellowish film that builds on the teeth and creates an acid that eats tooth enamel and causes major problems in the oral health of your children. As plaque builds, it can lead to tooth decay and gingivitis, which can stay with your children throughout their lives. Because of this, it is important to help teach your children the steps to help minimize the buildup of plaque on their teeth. One of the most important steps to removing plaque is proper brushing. The toothbrush should be placed at a 45-degree angle between the tooth and the gum. The brush can move in either a circular movement or through the "gentle scrub method," which involves moving the brush backwards and forwards in very short strokes. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day in an unhurried and thorough manner. It is recommended that brushing occurs after breakfast and before you go to sleep. Another important step to removing plaque is pr

Milk can lead to anemia

Image
In the event that a child under school age drink more than two glasses of milk a day, his body decreases the amount of iron, which can lead to anemia. According to the study, which was attended by 1,300 children of preschool age, children should not drink more than two glasses of milk a day. Milk contains calcium and vitamin D, needed for bone growth. However, excessive intake of milk in the body is accompanied by a decrease in the amount of iron, and iron deficiency leads to movement disorders. Children who drank three or more glasses of milk per day had reduced levels of serum ferritin, which reflects the state of body iron stores. The more milk the children drank, the lower ferritin levels fell. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limiting consumption of cow's milk for preschoolers to two glasses a day. However, the Committee on Nutrition believe that children who drink at least four glasses of milk a day, should be given supplements of vitamin D. Supplementati

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three Americans is obese, making it common to speak of obesity as an epidemic a widespread problem that affects the society as a whole rather than an affliction of individuals who make poor eating decisions. Who is Obese? The obesity rate has fallen slightly in recent years and appears to have stabilized among children, but obesity does not affect all portions of the population equally. Obesity disproportionately affects those who with less money and education, as well as women. And obesity affects earning power and other forms of op

Maternal Obesity Can Hamper The Development Of Child's Brain

Image
Obesity is normally associated with many common diseases like heart attacks and diabetics. But very few people know that imbalanced and fat rich diet taken by women before and during pregnancy can give birth to mentally retarded children especially males. The most important abnormality observed in such children is the appearance of anxiety during adulthood. Extra Weigh and Pregnant Women: Fatness can be extremely deleterious for pregnant women and doctors constantly warn such women not to increase their weight before and during pregnancy. The disproportional diet of the mother and any physical or mental trauma suffered by her can cause many different diseases in new born baby like mental disorders, obesity and diabetes in later stages of life. What to Teach Your Kids When it Comes to Exercise

Image
With millions of obese people in the United States and this number growing each year, it is more important than ever to teach children how to exercise properly and make working out a consistent part of their daily lives. Teach Through Actions If it is important to you, it will be important to your kids. Children mimic their parents, so teaching through action is the best way to show your kids how to live. Regular exercise is not only healthy for you but for your child as they begin to learn how and why they should exercise. Involve your kids when you are working out and as you train them, explain why exercise is so important. This is one of the greatest gifts you can give your kids. Start Out Slow If you are heavy into weight lifting and working out, keep in mind that children are still growing and developing. There are certain exercises that kids should avoid at varying ages. The younger you start training your kids to workout, the more likely they are to always exercise. Be

Kids Swallowing Laundry Packs

Image
The more convenient it is the more consumers gravitate to it, especially with busy lives we all live. And that convenience for consumers can lead to dangers when children are involved. That's why poison control officials have issued a warning to parents about the new brightly colored little packets that combine laundry detergent with other cleaning agents. It's a new convenience for consumers, and now new danger for kids. Nearly 250 people have called poison centers in a past couple of months after small children swallowed or bit into the packets, the Associated Press reports. And some of the kids have gotten very sick much sicker than kids usually get when they swallow a little detergent, says an alert from The American Association of Poison Control Centers. For example: -- A 15-month-old child developed "profuse vomiting" and had to be put on a ventilator at a hospital to keep breathing. -- A 17-month-old child developed nausea and vomiting and also inhale

About Sunscreen What You Need to Know

Image
As the weather gets warmer, enjoying the sunshine becomes top priority. But increased sun exposure also means an increased risk of sunburn and, in turn, skin cancer if you don't adequately protect yourself. Last summer the U.S. Food and Drug Administration instituted new sunscreen label guidelines so consumers could clearly tell which ones offered the most protection. The new labeling was supposed to be in effect by this summer, but the FDA extended the deadline to December, as companies were having trouble complying. Dermatologists say having the proper information is crucial when out in the summer sun. "Wearing sunscreen and then deliberately going out in the sun is almost as [bad] as going out with no sunscreen at all," said Dr. Robin Ashinoff, chief of dermatologic and cosmetic surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. "You don't get burned, but the UV rays are still getting into your skin. Sunscreen is important, but you should also wear the rig

Violent Behavior

Image
There is a great concern about the incidence of violent behavior among children and adolescents. This complex and troubling issue needs to be carefully understood by parents, teachers, and other adults. Children as young as preschoolers can show violent behavior. Parents and other adults who witness the behavior may be concerned, however, they often hope that the young child will "grow out of it." Violent behavior in a child at any age always needs to be taken seriously. It should not be dismissed as "just a phase they're going through!" Range of Violent Behavior: Violent behavior in children and adolescents can include a wide range of behaviors: explosive temper tantrums, physical aggression, fighting, threats or attempts to hurt others (including homicidal thoughts), use of weapons, cruelty toward animals, fire setting, intentional destruction of property and vandalism. Numerous research studies have concluded that a complex interaction or combination of
