Nowhereelse.fr is back with several more comparison shots this time of a fully assembled iPhone 5

Image
The iPhone 5 pictures just keep on leaking. French blog Nowhereelse.fr has another round of pictures of the next iteration of the iPhone, generally dubbed the iPhone 5. While yesterday's batch of pictures showed the front face of the next iPhone stacked up against an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, today's set features a fully assembled iPhone 5 next to the existing versions. The phone is placed next to what is labeled as iPhone 4, as well as an iPhone 3GS, which the site mistakenly refers to as an iPhone 3. The pictures fall in line with the wave of rumors that have popped up for the next iPhone, which includes a longer body and larger display. The next iPhone is widely expected to also be able to tap into faster 4G LTE networks. Apple is expected to unveil the next iPhone at an event in San Francisco on September 12, though that is completely unofficial at this point. There's an intense buildup of anticipation for the new smartphone because it marks the first time in mor

Toshiba To Take On IPads With Windows 8 Tablets

Image
Acer Inc., Toshiba Corp. (6502) and Asustek Computer Inc. (2357) will unveil tablets running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 8 operating system next week, people with knowledge of the matter said, challenging the dominance of Apple Inc. (AAPL)'s iPad. Acer will display a tablet based on Microsoft's new software at the Computex show in Taipei, while Toshiba will show a tablet and a notebook-type device, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven't been made public. Asustek will present tablets with detachable keyboards similar to its current Transformer model, the people said. The annual Computex show provides a forum for the computer industry to tout its wares before the typical increase in second-half demand. Computer makers allied with Microsoft (MSFT) will use this year's event to highlight a long-awaited response to the iPad and machines that run Google Inc.'s Android operating system, which together have 91 percent of the tablet m

Samsung unveils Galaxy S III Challenge iPhone

Image
Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest hand-held weapon in its war against Apple a smartphone dubbed Galaxy S III that is lighter and thinner than the iPhone despite having a screen nearly twice as large. The S III, with voice command, will go on sale in Europe at the end of this month and in the United States and other countries this summer. The company did not offer pricing information or disclose which U.S. carriers would offer the phone, which will run on 4G wireless networks. Samsung is hoping the new phone will help it leapfrog Apple. During the first quarter of this year, Apple accounted for 29 percent of U.S. smartphones sold, while Samsung was close behind at 24 percent, according to figures released this week by NPD Group, a market research firm. Some analysts believe that Samsung sold more devices than Apple around the world from January to March. Smartphone observers have attributed Samsung's success to the growing prepaid-phone market, in which consumers can buy

Apple's nano-SIM proposal draws fire from Motorola, Nokia, RIM

Image
Giesecke and Devrient's nano-SIM design is fueling quite the standards battle over in Europe, with Apple sitting in one corner, and the troika of Motorola, Nokia and RIM looming in the other. That's according to the Financial Times, which reports today that Cupertino is leading a charge to push its own nano-SIM proposal through Europe's standards body, ETSI, much to the chagrin of its competitors. According to FT's sources, Apple's version of the nano-SIM would call for a "drawer" to protect it, much like the designs already featured in the iPhone and iPad. Though the standard would be available to all manufacturers under license, there's a lingering fear that Apple may eventually own all the patents pertaining to its proposal. Plus, its rivals would have to re-engineer their handsets to meet Apple's proposed design, even though Nokia claims its solution offers "significant technical advantages. ETSI is slated to vote on the proposals n

Apple's New iPad, It's Faster and Screen Is Better

Image
Apple just announced the newest iPad, which will be called the iPad, and not the iPad 3 or iPad HD or iPad: Eddie Bauer Edition or with any other modifier. The big hits: it's got a better screen ("better" in this case meaning Apple has stolen all the pixels in the world and crammed them into the new iPad), a faster processor, an optional 4G LTE chip, and some software updates. So the big news here is the screen resolution, which is bonkers. At 2048 x 1536 pixels, it has significantly more pixels than not just the old iPad, but also your 1080p HDTV and just about any other "HD" screen you've got lying around. Apple's again referring to it as a "Retina Display," which means that you won't be able to see pixels with your bare, weakened, organic eyeballs, at least from the 15-inch distance Apple estimates most people have between their eyes and their iPads. (Note: Apple is clearly excluding cats, which have more sensitive eyes and sit closer

New iPad goes on sale March 16

Image
Apple's next-generation iPad tablet will go on sale in initial launch markets on March 16th according to a new report. Citing an unnamed "Apple Store source." Apple watcher 9to5Mac claims that preparations are being made for an event within Apple Stores that is scheduled to take place on the 16th. Given the timing, it seems likely that such an event would focus on Apple's iPad 3 or iPad HD, as it may be called. Apple Stores will reportedly host a separate event some time after the 16th, but details surrounding this possible additional product launch were not made available. Apple is expected to take the wraps off its next-generation iPad on Wednesday during a press conference in San Francisco. While the Cupertino, California-based company may have a few surprises in store for us, Apple's supply chain has been leaking like a sieve over the past few months. The result is what should be a relatively complete picture of the "iPad 3″ or "iPad HD,"
