A healthy diet reduces the risk of severe depression

Patients who are depressed, rarely think about the benefits of foods they eat, with anything and usually malnourished. However, until now, the statistical link between diet and the risk of depression was not established.

Finnish scientists to fill this gap. It turned out that the above-mentioned risk was significantly decreased in the case if the patient changes the composition of their diet in a side of vegetables, fruits, berries, cereals, chicken, fish and low-fat cheese.

In addition, it was found that folic acid (one of the B vitamins) is also in the firing line in the fight against depression. Also among the products with similar properties appeared coffee.

Finally, the authors noted that the decrease in body weight progressively reduced the severity of depressive symptoms.

What products, in contrast, may worsen depression? Scientists have responded to this question. It turns out that an excessive fondness for sausage, sausages and other processed meats, as well as the exorbitant love of sweets, soda and fries harm not only your figure, but also the emotional realm.

Among other things, the authors dispel myths about certain foods and substances that were previously erroneously regarded as "anti-depressant." Among them were cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, tea and caffeine from vnekofeynyh sources.

The study involved more than 2,000 men of middle aged and elderly. Scientists have observed them for a very long period of time - from 13 to 20 years. Subjects kept diaries filled with food and special psychological questionnaires which researchers assessed diet and participants and their emotional status, respectively.

Depression is a major epidemiological phenomenon of modernity, this syndrome violates the quality of life and ability to work of millions of people, resulting in huge economic losses.
