Top 5 Ways to Summer Proof Your Hair

Sun-tan lotion with SPF, skimpy bikini, oversized hat, lip balm, Ray Ban aviator glasses, hmmmm.. What else are you forgetting on your summer shopping list girl? How about some hair care products! Most people's main concern during this season is how they would flaunt their bodies and how they avoid getting too much sun on their skin. They forgot that their hair needs caring too! If you notice, your hair becomes dryer after an out of town or a vacation that involves too much sun exposure and water activities. You end up getting back on your office with a bad tan and a bad hair.

So is there a way to summer proof hair?

1. Follow the proper way in shampooing your hair. We tend to be obsessed in washing our hair on a daily basis in order to keep it clean and grease free. But did you know that frequent shampooing can lead your hair to dryness? Making it more prone to damage such as split ends and frizzing. So it's more advisable to wash your hair every other day with a mild shampoo. Do not use hot water. Apply shampoo only on the scalp by gently massaging it. Never apply shampoo directly on the hair and rinse it completely.

2. Choose the best conditioner. There are two conditioners that you need: the washable and the leave-in. Applying conditioner is not the same as shampoo. You have to avoid too much conditioner on the area of scalp for it can cause hair fall. Be generous in applying conditioner on your hair in order to coat each strands. Remember to rinse it thoroughly to avoid the sticky feeling due to residues. Don't forget to use leave-in conditioner after your hair is completely dry. Squeeze a pea sized amount of leave-in conditioner and spread it on your hair.

3. Refrain from using blow dryers, flat irons, and curlers. The temperature of summer is already intense enough for your hair, using blow dryers will make the situation more redundant. Let your hair dry naturally during this season most especially if you don't have a special event to attend to. Although it can be tough to style hair without the magic help of flat irons and curlers, you'll do your hair a great favor. Since it's summer, au naturale look suits best. A neat pony tail or bed head look is totally acceptable.

4. Get rid of split ends. Trim your hair regularly to remove those nasty split ends before they become worse. It's not necessary to cut it short but just enough to prevent the split from going up. Regular trimming can make your hair grow faster as well.

5. Prep your hair before swimming. What's summer without hitting the beach or diving into the swimming pool right? However, here's a quick to do list before you submerge yourself into chlorine infested waters. Put an oil or a leave in conditioner and apply it thoroughly to the strands of your hair. This will protect your hair against the damaging chemicals found in sea waters and public pools. Aside from that, it will also prevent irritating tangles and frizzing. After swimming, wash your hair immediately to remove residues.
