Non-Surgical Treatments for Facial Lines

Demand for non-surgical facial treatments has risen significantly over the last few years, with both men and women now opting for smoother, wrinkle-free skin. Most recovery times for these treatments are short and relatively pain free.

This article will provide a comprehensive guide on the different non-surgical treatments available for facial lines, how they work and whether they could be right for you.

Botox

Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments for facial lines and wrinkles. Once injected into the area, the treatment blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that cause expression lines. The treatment relaxes the muscles so that they do not contract. After a day or so the facial muscles will begin to relax, and the overlying skin will remain smooth and unwrinkled, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are also a popular treatment for treating expression lines. They are a form of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body. The most popular dermal fillers are Juvederm and Restylane. Once the dermal filler is applied to the area to be treated, the hyaluronic acid replenishes and rejuvenates the skin, instantly giving a more youthful appearance.

Chemical Peels

Another treatment that is really beneficial for treating facial lines and wrinkles are chemical peels.

There are many different types of chemical peels, and each one is tailored to treat a specific skin type or condition. The procedure is performed on the face, neck or hands, as well as for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment can also be used to improve the appearance of mild scarring, treat certain types of acne, reduce age spots, freckles and dark patches and improve the look and feel of skin that is dull in texture and colour. However, bulges, sagging skin and severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. They may require other cosmetic treatments such as laser resurfacing, a facelift, brow lift, or eyelift. A dermatologic surgeon will be able to determine which treatment is the most suitable during the consultation.

Micro-Needling

Micro-Needling is suitable for all skin types. The device is rolled along the surface of the skin and the small needles penetrate the bottom layers of the skin, which prompts the body to respond through the creation of new collagen and elastin fibres. As a response, the skin plumps and thickens, ultimately reducing the appearance of fine lines and other texture changes.

If you are thinking of having any form of cosmetic surgery, it is important to research your surgeon prior to the treatment.
